ABOUT JIMBO

He graduated from Jacksonville State University with a degree in Political Science and from the University of Oklahoma with a Master’s in Public Administration.

Mr. Langley was a Distinguished Military Graduate and received a commission in 1971. He served active duty tours in Alaska, Fort Sill Oklahoma, and Korea. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with 23 years’ service from the Army Reserve.

In his civilian career, Mr. Langley took an early retirement from BellSouth Communications where he was in marketing and then worked in the nonprofit sector for a number of years.

 

In the last few years, he became a writer, artist and storyteller. He is well known in the area for his book Delmont's Slang Blade  and his book on Oak Hill, the oldest cemetery in Birmingham.  He regularly conducts walking tours of the cemetery. He is also known for guiding tours on the history and founding of Birmingham including Red Mountain Park and the Civil Rights/African-American heritage.
